Bayside Academy offers girls' and boys' tennis and is open to students in grades 7-12. Bayside's tennis teams have had impressive showings in the 1A-3A State tournaments. In the last five years, the girls' team has finished 3rd once, 2nd three times, and had a State Championship team in 2007. The boys' team took third place in 2008, and had their best showing ever in 2009 when they won the State Championship.
Each team can carry 6-12 players. If there are enough players, a JV team will play.
Team practice begins the last week in January at Point Clear Tennis Club, with placement on the rosters determined by challenge matches. Practice is Monday through Thursday every week until matches begin in late February. Two to three matches are scheduled each week during February, March and April with practice on days that there is no scheduled match.
A player must play at least four matches during the season to qualify to play the sectional tournament which is held in late April. There are six singles positions and three doubles positions that play each match. A student may play singles or doubles or both. Two teams from each section qualify to play in the State tournament, which is held the week following sectional tournaments. There are six sections in the State thus sending 12 teams to the State tournament.
Transportation to and from matches and tournaments is provided by the parents.
