World renowned, award-winning artist TAFA made a special appearance at Bayside Academy recently where he conversed with Bayside’s art students while crafting a painting he presented to the school upon completion.
TAFA’s technique involves using a palette knife rather than a brush, as he explained he is better able to produce depth and texture on the canvas with a knife. Passionate about soccer himself, much of TAFA’s work reflects athletes in motion, as did the piece he completed at Bayside of a female basketball player making a slam dunk.
TAFA earned a BFA degree from the College of Art, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana, and now lives in Harlem, N.Y. His paintings have been exhibited in a myriad of galleries and museums across the U.S., as well as in Canada, Europe, Japan and South Africa.
TAFA is the United States Sports Academy 2010 Sport Artist of the Year.
