The Learning Place and Academic Coaching Center for Excellence


The Learning Place (LP) and Academic Coaching Center for Excellence (ACCE) are Bayside Academy's supplemental educational centers. The LP and ACCE faculty seek to assist students with learning differences to reach their full potential by developing independence and fostering self-reliance. We support students as they overcome learning challenges in a positive, encouraging environment. The LP and ACCE faculty work collaboratively with students, teachers and parents. We believe that communication among these three constituents is a key factor in the success of each student.

The goal of the LP and ACCE is to equip all students qualifying for services with the strategies necessary to be academically successful within Bayside Academy’s rigorous college preparatory curriculum.



Each student receiving services at the Learning Place and the Academic Coaching Center for Excellence will be provided the highest quality of education possible. To this end, we focus on:

  • Fostering a nurturing safe environment for students
  • Using data to identify individual strengths and weaknesses
  • Employing evidence-based interventions to meet the specific learning needs of each student and develop more executive functioning skills
  • Providing consistent implementation of treatment strategies to increase achievement
  • Using progress-monitoring tools to assess underlying academic skill issues as well as develop and implement evidence-based individualized intervention approaches to help mitigate underlying academic issues
  • Using situational awareness, forethought, and episodic memory as foundational skills for successful task execution
  • Collaborating with parents, teachers, counselors and division heads to implement an individualized, comprehensive program for both inside and outside of the classroom
  • Keeping in close communication on a consistent basis with parents regarding their child’s growth

Services Provided

The Learning Place and Academic Coaching Center for Excellence provide evidence-based interventions tailored to the unique learning needs of each student and serves as a place where students receive academic accomadations and modifications.

  • Students may be enrolled from 1-5 sessions per week or for unlimited test taking.
  • Each LP/ACCE session is one-on-one or small group (one teacher to two students maximum).
  • The LP/ACCE currently employs three learning specialists and 3 full-time teachers to provide specific interventions and instructional sessions for students with learning differences.
  • Students in grades 7-12 are eligible for our Executive Functioning Seminar throughout their course of study. This semester course counts towards students elective credits and is graded on the OSNU Scale (Outstanding, Satisfactory, Needs Improvement, Unsatisfactory)
  • Students in grades 3-12 who qualify for services in the LP are required to maintain current psycho-educational testing, which must be updated every three years.
  • Students recommended for Targeted Instructional sessions in grades PK-2 are not required to have testing on file to receive services; however, instructional screening may be necessary to provide appropriate intervention.


Kindergarten – Second Grade; $35.00 per 40-minute session
Third – Twelfth Grade: $45 per class period
Extended Time for Testing: $315/quarter

*Fees will be billed at the beginning of each quarter via student billing. Changes in services can only be made quarterly.
