Ralph Watson
Varsity Head Basketball Coach

A graduate of W.A. Berry High School in Birmingham, Coach Ralph Watson participated and lettered in basketball, football, and track. He went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in education from The University of Alabama in 1987.

Coach Watson began his coaching career in 1988 at Coweta Central Middle School in Newnan, Georgia, where he led the boys basketball team to a 133 record. Coach Watson also assisted with defensive backs at Newnan High School and served as an assistant baseball coach under Coach Joe Pope. In 1989, he helped guide the football team to the North Georgia Championship and the baseball team to runner-ups. 

In the summer of 1989, Watson returned to Birmingham to complete his master’s degree in biology from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. While there, Coach Watson was hired as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) under head coach Duane Reboul. He helped lead the team to the 1990 NAIA National Championship with a record of 313. During his four years at BSC, the Panthers compiled a 10923 record. 

In 1994, Coach Watson took over the boys basketball program at Fairhope High School. He inherited a team that had won six games the previous two seasons. Within two years, the Pirates became Area Champions. During his twelve years at Fairhope, Coach Watson’s teams complied a record of 179170, including a 2003 campaign where the team went 321.
