“Childhood Is a Journey. . . .Not a Race.” Jim Grant, Founder, Staff Development for Educators

Welcome to the Lower School Division of Bayside Academy where our PK-2nd Grade students begin their exciting educational journey. We are delighted that you are interested in choosing Bayside to launch your child’s educational experience.

Through exploration and hands-on experiences, our Early Childhood Center students in grades PK and kindergarten develop a natural curiosity and understanding of their world. By providing a nurturing and caring environment in the Early Childhood Center, the children are encouraged to make a smooth transition from their home environment to the Bayside Lower School setting.

We are aware that attitudes are developed and habits are formed during the first eight years of a child’s life. During those years, the teachers in the Lower School place an emphasis on helping the students develop an understanding of themselves while becoming aware of the feelings of others. By building self-confidence and developing self-discipline, our PK- 2nd grade programs lay the foundation for our students to develop strong character and good citizenship.

Lower School students are provided with many educational experiences that are designed to develop the whole child. In addition to classroom academic instruction which helps the children reach their potential in reading, language, math, social studies and science, our students regularly attend classes for instruction in the areas of art, music, physical education, Spanish, library and science enrichment.

During my 43 years as a faculty member at Bayside Academy, I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to observe many children navigate through their entire Bayside experience. One of the highlights of my career has been the privilege of teaching the children of so many of my former students. This is just one of the many elements which makes Bayside Academy so unique to our community.

The 2018-2019 school year will bring much excitement to you and your children. Every day is an adventure in our Lower School classrooms! In addition to special events such as Back to School Night, Grandparents Day, holiday parties and Mother’s Day celebrations, the students will also experience grade-level field trips. Your classroom teachers and I will keep you posted on the details for each event. The Lower School faculty and staff welcome your participation in activities and celebrations during the course of the school year.

I am anxious to work with those of you with whom I have already established a relationship, and I look forward to getting to know those of you who are joining the Bayside family for the first time. Our joint efforts in guiding your precious children through the Lower School level of the Bayside experience will help build a solid foundation upon which your children can flourish.
