Pace McLendon '21 Wins Head of School Choice Award

Bayside senior Pace McLendon is the 2021 winner of the Head of School Choice Award.
The Head of School Choice Award was founded in 2013 and designed to honor one or more talented artists in Bayside's Upper School. Artists are asked to create a piece based on something that has inspired them during their time at Bayside Academy. The medium may be anything that is 2- or 3-dimensional, and the winning artwork hangs in Bayside's administration building.

This year's piece, which began from two instant polaroid photographs of the underneath of the Bayside pier, truly captures this past year. The photographs went through a difficult emulsion and layering process and then Pace tinted it to a darker Bayside blue to represent the hardships of this past year. Pace described the piece: "While it has an ominous feel, the lines all converge to the vanishing point, which symbolizes the end of the dark COVID times, a light at the end of the tunnel." He hopes that this light evokes the same feeling for others as they look at the photograph.
