Curriculum

Excellent by Tradition. Innovative by Design.

Beginning in the Early Childhood Center, Bayside Academy students are exposed to the Reggio Emilia approach to learning, which was developed in Italy and is based upon the principles that children must have some control over the direction of their learning; must be able to learn through experiences of touching, moving, listening, and observing; must be allowed to explore their relationships with other children and with material items in the world; and must have endless ways and opportunities to express themselves.

Rotating Schedule

Bayside Academy adopted an eight-day rotating schedule across all divisions in Fall 2023. Each division has adapted the schedule to accommodate the developmental needs of its students.

In the Upper School, the school day begins at 8:30 a.m. Students attend five classes per day in addition to a mid-morning student life period. Each class meets five times out of an eight-day period, which allows for a manageable amount of homework and assessments. Frequent breaks, no bells, a later start to the day, slightly longer periods, and rotating classes create a calm environment at a more relaxed pace than a traditional schedule. Intentionally, it mirrors more of a collegiate rhythm, affording students more opportunities to interact with their peers, seek support from teachers, and be engaged in community activities.
