Isabelle Rutland ’24 represented Bayside at Girls State held June 4-9 on the campus of Troy University.
Girls State participants heard from Senator Katie Britt, Governor Kay Ivey, Miss Alabama, and State Treasurer Young Boozer among others, and they visited the state Capitol and Governor's Mansion.

Isabelle was elected Editor in Chief of the newspaper where she wrote an editorial about her Girls State experience as well as two stories and Sergeant at Arms of the Senate where she learned about parliamentary procedure and delivered the bills that were passed in the Senate to the House of Representatives. She was able to hear from Senator Katie Britt, Governor Kay Ivey, State Treasurer Young Boozer, Miss Alabama, and many other guest speakers. When asked about her time at Girls State, Isabelle said, “I’m so incredibly grateful that I had the privilege of being exposed to such empowering speakers and making connections with supportive, kind, and driven girls from all over the state. I’m especially grateful to Mrs. Blackwell [Bayside’s Director of College Counseling] for encouraging me to take this opportunity.”
