Vocabulary words relating to aspects of engineering and the building process were incorporated. (For example, "Roof lines are at a diagonal.")
During a letter talk, students built the letter A with wood pieces as their letter focus activity and noted, “An A is easy to build, it’s just two diagonals.” Countless academic strategies and invaluable collaborative experiences developing confidence and social development well beyond the traditional expectations of a three-year-old are incorporated and often mastered through this research method. The children are important participants in their own learning. This engineering and construction inquiry lasted for a few weeks, and then we shifted to space as children wondered about celestial bodies following the solar eclipse.
