The NSDA’s Honor Society was founded in 1925 and is now one of the oldest and most respected honor societies known to colleges and universities.
Participants in sanctioned speech and debate competitions and tournaments who earn at least 25 merit points and uphold the standards of the honor society can be inducted. Once a member, they can continue to earn more points within the Honor Society through competitions (including Youth in Government), public speaking activities (such as play performances), service, and leadership. As points are earned, they lead to higher degrees in the Honor Society. Degrees recognize progress and distinction among the members.
Members of the Honor Society are held to the Code of Honor, which reflects the core values of and standards for participation within their organization. Over the past 100 years, NSDA has celebrated the honorable actions and achievements of nearly two million alumni.
