We are thrilled to share that our 9th grade mock-trial team won the Premier League State Finals, earning a spot at the National Mock Trial Competition this summer in Minnesota!
Over the weekend, Bayside sent three Upper School teams consisting of 30 students to the YMCA Youth Judicial (Mock-Trial) State Competition at the Montgomery County Courthouse.
State Champions -- 9th Grade Team: Arya Amin, Hayden Coumanis, Grace Counselman, Elizabeth Handwerger, Annabel Kimbrell, Bennett Lieb, Frank Smith, Evelynn Stokes, and Drew Williams. This incredible team won all four of their trials before defeating Hoover High School in the finals!
The big win was helped in large part by the leadership and experience of the two major league teams from Bayside, including the team of Lee Ginger, Dori Small, Evelyn Carpenter, Jessica Tran, Colt Hancock, Sims Goodrich, Austin Pete Williams, and John Stephen Klimjack, who finished 8th at state, along with the team of Ava Bindon, Greta Deese, Anne Riley Williams, Mary Helen Williams, Sebastian Winstead, Cruz McMurray, Joey Dorman, and Burke Ramagosa. Bayside was fortunate to have five students serve as alternates including Arabella Rowland, Macie Kate Imperato, Wells Smith, Mack Guilbert, and Bax Fargason.
Individually, sophomore John Stephen Klimjack was recognized as one of the top witnesses, while junior Dori Small ran for Chief Justice, losing in a close election. We are so proud of all our students for their dedication, teamwork, and spirit. They represented Bayside beautifully both in and out of the courtroom!
